Parliament must be protected

The chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Suranjit Sengupta has recommended the cancellation of registration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for its insulting remarks against the Parliament.

The committee chairman disclosed the matter while addressing a press conference at media center in the National Parliament on Wednesday.

He said, "Parliament must be protected. NGOs should be brought under accountability. TIB has belittled parliament. No NGO has the authority to belittle Parliament. So, its registration has to be cancelled."

"The TIB was given a three-day time to scrap its remarks on parliament, but it did not do so. It did not seek apology," Suranjit added.

The parliamentary body has already forwarded its recommendation to the NGO Affairs Bureau.
