SC orders to extend war heroes retirement age

The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the High Court (HC) verdict that asked to represent a proposal to the cabinet extending service age for freedom fighters 65 years from 60.

The Appellate Divison of SC headed by chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha disposed the leave-to-appeal filed by the state and passed the order on Monday.

One Jamal Uddin, according to directions of the Prime Minister office, filed a writ petition to HC seeking to extend the age of service holder freedom fighter 65 years from 60 in 2006.

After hearing the petition, on January 14 this year, the bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher M Saifur Rahman asked the authority concerned to represent the proposal in this regard to the cabinet meeting within 60 days.
