Two suspected dacoits beaten to death in Faridpur

No less than two suspected dacoits were pounded the life out of by local people in region's Boalmari upazila on Monday night. 

The occurrence happened in Hatkhola region of Moina union around 10.15pm. 

The perished were recognized as Murad (28) at Chattor town and Miron (30). 

As per sources, three adolescents riding on a bike tumbled from the bicycle as it was hit by a velocity breaker. Subsequently local people accumulated there and later, the adolescents were given a decent beating, leaving two dead on the spot. 

Another youth figured out how to escape from the spot. 


Greek voters reject bailout offer

NBR to raid hospital-clinics

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will keep watch on the private healing centers and facilities which got duty free offices on medicinal apparatuses importing.

New Chief Justice reforms appeal bench

After taking his oath as Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha (SK Sinha) reformed the bench of appellate division of the Supreme Court.


The registrar of the Supreme Court (SC) SM Kuddus Jaman confirmed this to media.

After reforming the bench the Chief Justice will head the Court No 1 of the appellate division while Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Hasan Foyez Siddique will co-operate him.

According to the new formation of the bench, Justice Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah will head the Court No 2 of the SC.

Earlier Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has taken oath as the 21st Chief Justice of People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

President Md Abdul Hamid administered the oath taking ceremony at the Bangabhaban at 11:00am on Saturday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, just retired Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain and other previous chief justices were present at the ceremony.

Earlier on January 12, the government appointed Justice Sinha to the office.

3 bodies recovered in Meghna boat capsize


A total of three dead bodies were recovered from Meghna river hours after a boat was capsized in the river this afternoon.

Along with a child and three women, a passenger boat was capsized at Narshingdi municipality area while 20 others were severely injured in the incident.

The dead were identified as Morsheda Begum, her child Subarna and Sufia Begum.

The passengers of the boat, however, alleged that the boat capsized as it was overloaded with passengers and goods.


20-party condemns remarks of BGB, Police chiefs


BNP led 20-party alliance condemned the remarks of Chiefs of Border Guard Bangladesh Maj Gen Abdul Aziz and Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque.

The 20 party leaders made the disclosure through a statement signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday noon in city.

The statement said that the remarks made the nation speechless and astounded. 

Such type of speech created panic among people, the statement added. 

Earlier on Thursday, Border Guard Bangladesh director, general major general Aziz Ahmed warned that his forces will open fire at the trouble making blockaders.

Later, on Friday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque in a programme said that blockade is not constitutional word. It is against constitution.


Vehicles will ply during blockades, hartals

Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad has announced that all kind of vehicles including long route buses will operate throughout the country regardless of any agitation programs.

Leaders of the organization announced this from a rally in front of the National Press Club on Thursday organized in protest against arson attack on vehicles, drivers and helpers.


The leaders also warned that “Tough programs will be floated if attacks on vehicles, drivers and transport workers will not be stopped”.

Presided over by President of the organization Khandokar Enaet Ullah, the program was addressed by member secretary Osman Ali, among others.
