Media men were held for their suspected movement

Three people including two media men were held for their suspected movement at PN School polling station area of Puthia municipality in Rajshahi on Tuesday midnight.

The detainees are identified as Shourav Habib, Rajshahi bureau chief of Daily Samakal and ATN news, his camera man Rabiul Islam and his nephew Tarikuzzaman.

Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Puthia Police Station, said they were held for their suspected movement at polling station area and for charges of persuading voters.

Puthia Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Returning Officer M Nuruzzaman said, no none is above the law. They were detained for violating the law of elections.

cricketer Shahadat Hossain Rajib got bail

Suspended Bangladesh national team cricketer Shahadat Hossain Rajib got bail in the case of torturing minor domestic help.

The High Court (HC) bench of Justice M. Enayetur Rahim and Justice M. Amir Hossain on Tuesday granted bail to Shahadat till March 31 next year.

Bangladesh government is going meetings with the Facebook authority

State minister for post and telecommunication division Tarana Halim on Saturday said that the government is going to hold two separate meetings with the Facebook authority in order to sign a deal.

The state minister said, "We are trying to convince Facebook to establish admin here in Bangladesh".

The first meeting is scheduled to be held at Home ministry in the morning and second one at Telecom Division in the afternoon, she also said.

Law enforcement specialist of Facebook in South Asia Vikram Langeh and public policy manager of Facebook in South Asia Deepali Liberhan will attend the meetings, she added.

Earlier on November 30, Tarana Halim wrote to the Facebook authority to ink a deal with the government and Facebook also replied immediately after the letter was sent.

Bangladesh Communist Party (CPB) president Mujahidul Islam Selim has received a death threat by email today.

In a press release CPB said that the email was sent at 12:28am on December 5.

A man named ‘Mission Jihad’ nayeb-e-ameer Nizam Uddin sent the threat message through uddinnizam456@yahoo.com.au early Saturday.

A mobile phone number (01747233070) was also mentioned in the email.

CPB urged law enforcers to take an immediate action of the persons in this regard.

A Class-III girl student named Ishrat Jahan Maliha (9) has been brutally beaten with cane by Jahirul Islam Badal, teacher of a coaching centre in Barguna for failing to solve a math problem.

The incident took place at a college road area of Barguna district on Thursday night.

Maliha is undergoing treatment at Barguna Sadar Hospital.

Riaz Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barguna Police Station, said Badal, who had gone into hiding after the incident, was arrested on Friday afternoon.

Maliha’s father filed a case on Thursday night, the OC said.

Maliha’s father Jamal Sikder said that Badal asked Maliha to solve a math problem. As she couldn’t do it, he beat her like a brute on Thursday.

Kamrul Islam, the hospital’s resident physician, said that there are several injury marks in her body.

"She will take some time to recover," the physician added.

Barguna’s Deputy Commissioner Mir Jahurul Islam and Superintendent of Police Bijoy Basak visited Maliha at the hospital on Friday.

The primary education department and the Upazila administration had been directed to take action against the teacher, they said.

Maliha was a student of Calix Academy. She used to receive private tuition at the Bijoy Britti Coaching Centre.
It is run by Jahirul Islam Badal, the accused. He is also an assistant teacher at the Roadparha Shaheed Smriti Government Primary School.

BNP has demanded withdrawal of several returning officers

Alleging `the feast of violating electoral code is being observed by the ruling party candidates, BNP has demanded withdrawal of several returning officers as they could not be able to take steps against them.

BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon demanded this at a press briefing at the party`s central office in the capital`s Nayapaltan on Friday afternoon.

Ripon alleged, "We have learnt that the ruling party nominated candidates, lawmakers and the leaders and activists are violating electoral conducts in the country`s different municipalities along with Dhamrai of Dhaka, Gouripur of Mymensingh, Doulatkhan of Vola, Keshobpur of Jessore, Betagi of Barguna."

He said returning officers of the municipalities concerned are playing silent roles despite taking any steps against the ruling party men. So we demand the withdrawal of them. Now we should wait to see what measures are taken by the Election commission (EC).

People of the country are feared whether the polls will be fair and free if EC do not take steps against the men who are violating electoral codes.

Government schools admission process Online began across the country

The online admission process for government schools in all divisional cities and district headquarters began across the country on Tuesday morning.

The application process began at 10:45am at 175 schools out 335 schools and will end at 12 midnight of December 13.

The opening of the admission process was inaugurated by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at Dhanmondi Government Boys` High School.

Among others, State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Tarana Halim was present as the special guest.
